Its going to end up worse when I color it, I just know it.

For the uninformed, Jessi and I agreed to draw Tezuka, from Prince of Tennis, looking over his shoulder. That was the prompt. The due date is this Sunday--ish. I stil have to pull out my markers and do some experimentation. I'll post it when its done.

    <lj:music>ciacomix--german trance stream that I ripped</lj:music>

Finished!! Cut is below.

Dad is back from Sweden! He said he saw a white reindeer and, what I think is even more exciting... lots and lots of QUAIL!! These quail were brown with a big black stripe that went around the back of their little heads. Instead of being tiny like Jack, they are the size of chickens. My dad did alot of hiking in Sweden where there wasnt a living soul for miles around... the many covey of quail--disturbed by dad's presence-- peeped continuously for hours on end. "Pooe!" "Pooe!" Thats how I can best describe their sound. I die of cute.

I think Im going to Canada this weekend. That sounds really funny, but we havent heard back from Steve, my dad's friend, who we were hoping to go up to "camp" with. Steve has a new place on the St. Lawrence where lots of canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing and maybe even swimming (BRR!) will occur.

Anyhow, on to the cut!

Ha, imagine that! Its done. With work and such, I've been working on this for about a week. Nice, thick bristol paper, my new pens and my india ink technical markers. I even used an inkwell and my new pen to do the black for her hair.

The colors are a little off on the scan, but I did my best to re-adjust them in photoshop. I love the feathers, man, the feathers! And her hair. And her weapon. Those I'm quite satisfied with.

Still a bit of liney-ness on the skirt. Im working on it. Also, this is my first time I've used acrylics for the whites. The whites on her cheeks barely came out in the scan and her skin color I managed to fix up a little, though at first I was SO angry at how it came out. Its a "Zig" brand marker and not "Artist" because I didnt like the color of the artist flesh tone. The worst part was the fact that my white acrylic SUCKS. I used up my good white last year for prom and bought a "finity" type white, Winsor and Newton brand. Its really a disgusting, chunky consistancy and I had to mix it with alot of gloss medium for it to get fluid enough to use. Of course, that made the white too transparent so I had to put on layers and in genral it was unsatisfactory. I dont know why I was so dumb and bought that brand. Maybe because it was on sale? Remind me never to do that again...

You cant really see the eyes and mouth on the mask anymore. Maybe I'll fix that up...

The bristol paper is really nice! Unfortunately, I dont have a real light table so I improvise with a bright light that I stick on the floor beside my bed. Then I balance the two papers on my transparent neon pink clipboard (classy, huh?) and clip it all down before tracing. But with paper this thick, the lines look really fuzzy. My dad is going to help me set something up, probably with a piece of plexi-glass.

I used thicker paper and now things are MUCH better. Not only is the paper not warped, but it doesnt show the irritating lines of the marker that want to make me pound my head against the wall. This is another picture I found randomly in a sketch book. The quote to go with it that I found scribbled at the top of the original sketch was, "Out for pirate booty, boys? Come and get it!"

Skin color isnt put in yet, I know. Im lazy. By the way, the original drawing is marked from March 2005. Its not bad.

Today is the fourth, guys! With the blacktop area right across the street and my neighborhood's usual collection of illegal fireworks, my friends and I will have front row seats. And homemade smoothies. Time to go pick up some ingredients.

My grandma left me $20 and I decided to pick up some artist markers to give some color to my sketches as an alternative to CGing them. I found an old sketch that I liked, scanned it in and printed it out with high contrast and traced it onto a piece of sketchbook paper. I inked it in using my usual drafting pencils, then used the markers. The result was a disappointment. There are alot of things to account for that: my paper was too light weight, I wasnt using a proper table, Im working with a limited color selection of seven pens, this is my first time experimenting, etc. Nevertheless, I dont like the texture that the pens give and its hard to vary their color. The pens are () type and the stores had a very limited selection of colors (maybe only 36 colors.) But unless Im really serious, I cant get my hands on some of the good stuff--Copic markers that cost twice as much as the pens I picked up ($6/piece vs $3.) Plus, they dont sell copic markers in anywhere around here but philly.

My options? I could try using watercolor, though Im not an expert at that either. I dont know how those will work with my pens... I'd have to use a pencil drawing first and then ink it in last. That just sounds awkward. Acrylics are too thick and impossible to use for such fine-tuned work... plus, Im lacking in the brush department.

I think I might continue playing around. I'll pick myself up/find myself some thicker paper and try again. Anyway, heres the picture... Kuroko, an old character of mine, wearing the universe.

So I had no scanner at school. But life is good now. And I've got a party to throw, applications to fill out and hand in, things to do...! Maybe I'll coerce Jessi into going with me. At least I have a car.

But not a job.
